When editing the rough cut, a key issue was the editing and the way it synchronized with the fast beat in the song. As a result, I decided to look into different ways of editing to the beat. This is particularly because as our song is quite fast paced, long takes may not work well.
There are many advantages and disadvantages with using this technique. Some advantages are that it is quick to do and easy to understand. However, using this technique means that it may also be easy to make mistakes, so it may take some resilience to master.
To further enhance my understanding, I used a song and practice setting markers to edit to the beat. Here is my attempt.
Alongside this, I practiced the technique with our own footage from the rough cut using the markers which I learned to use from additional research.
This is how the work space looked when I was editing to the beat.
In order to get the best footage, we decided to use equipment from outside of school and have highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of the equipment used in order to give an accurate perception of any drawbacks or problems we can avoid during the shoot such as bringing along a fold-able light box(which we did to avoid low quality shots in low key lighting).
So I could have a clearer understanding of the features included in one of the ancillary products I will be creating, I decided to analyse two additional websites. I looked into the homepage and the "tour dates" page, and found many similarities and differences between them. This task also allowed me to develop a better understanding of what to include on my own media product.
I analysed the website for Diplo and for Kygo.
To summarise, most of the websites I looked into as well as the ones I analysed used a range of similar features such as the use of the main image. bold typography, and the visibility of "Tour Dates".
In order to understand websites further, I decided to create a website interface for our imaginary "Star Persona" on Photoshop. In this task, I also placed the screen on a Mac that I created, This allowed me to explore the use of gradients as well as the importance of layers and other factors.
We decided to research different ways that known EDM artists create branding and synergy throughout different platforms.
Through discussion, we understood that logos and colours are the key features that contribute to the branding and synergy in ancillary products.
We created a presentation to further elaborate on this.
How will we implement this in our own work?
To create synergy across our media products, colour will play a key role. This is the most simple way and will be useful because of the huge role that colour has in EDM. We will also reciprocate synergy through the editing effects which we will try to replicate across our products. Examples of this would be the use of the scribble effect, as well as the ghost effect. Finally, we will create familiarity through the pictures we take and we will ensure that they are in similar locations so there is no confusions. We have decided to go with simple aspects because the EDM genre itself is incredibly chaotic in terms of its use of colour and ideologies and we would like to juxtapose this.
As we will be utilising a drone in the development of our music video, I decided to complete further research into the use of a drone for beginners. This research will help me be supportive in the production of our music video.
To ensure drone shots use contribute well to the final media product, I also decided to watch this video which gives a range of tips in the utilisation.
In order, to receive a better understanding of the new camera equipment we borrowed externally I analysed the features, advantages, and disadvantages of the equipments to avoid any problems that could arise when filming. I also watched tutorial videos for the camera equipments to ensure the shots are filmed correctly and to a good standard.
To receive a better understanding of all three ancillary products (digipak, website and album/poster) I gathered research for digipak and website, and therefore I will be able to make a final decision in which two ancillary products I decide to choose.
I developed a questionnaire which was distributed to people who fit the psychographics of our target audience. They were enquired about the types of fonts they preferred and a range of selection had been gven, as well as the option to state that they did not like any of the fonts.
This information will be useful as it has given me an idea of what types of fonts to utilise in the development of my digipak and website.
From the fonts in which "Escape" was written, I found that the most popular option was option 1. The least favourite options were joint of 2, 3 and 4. When looking at the font for the copy I found that option B was the most popular and two people also said that they did not like any of the fonts, which will allow me to reconsider what fonts to use at a later stage.
I developed a questionnaire which was distributed to people who fit the age bracket of our target audience. They were enquired about the ancillary tasks, as well as briefly about our music video (as we have already conducted proper target audience research for the music video).
This information will be useful as it has given me an idea of what to prioritise, develop and utilise in the formation of the digipak.
As I was not satisfied with how much this research would apply to my own website, I created an additional questionnaire which was distributed to 20 people in which I conducted more specific research for my own website. Examples of questions I asked were "What colour schemes stand out"
The majority of participant preferred option D as their favourite colour scheme. One participant suggested a colour scheme and this colour scheme stood out to me immediately. This is because of how unique it was, and it also corresponded well to the EDM genre. The majority of participants rated the logo 4 out of 5 and suggested that enhancing colour would make the logo more effective. 60% of participants preferred the horizontal style whereas only 4% preferred the vertical buttons.
To gain a better understanding of our target audience, we decided to film research for websites in which we included five people who were fans of the EDM genre.

In this, we were able to learn many things; for example, the colours that stood out to them and what to include in our own websites.
In order to gain a more in depth understanding, Zeel created forms which our target audience could fill out in order to gain more qualitative and detailed research.
I gathered primary research from our target audience in which I
decided to make a questionnaire, and therefore the information I have
gathered will help me make sure the features I decide to incorporate
will look appealing and grab their attention.
I analysed the typography for websites and albums from EDM artists this would be benefical for me as I would be aware of the codes and conventions of typography to ensure my ancillary products look appealing and grab the audiences attention.
DJ SNAKE: Website
AFROJACK: Website
ZEDD: Album
SKRILLEX: Album
Once analysing the typography for websites and albums I decided to gather primary research from our target audience which font and colour they preferred the most, and therefore will help me make a decision.
