In order to understand ways to improve my ancillary product, I collected feedback. I created a collaborative "Google Docs" to gain rich data about what my target audience liked and how it could be better. I will be taking this feedback into consideration in my next draft.
Here is the feedback in the form of screenshots.
What will I change as a result of this feedback?
-
Font of texts: This seemed to be a key issue and was used because it was the most preferred by my target audience. However, I will make it more bold and clear to ensure it doesn't merge with the background.
-
Removal of "Yin-Yan" signs: May place one symbol on top of the sun but will remove the scattered symbols.
-
Colour: Although I received mixed feedback on this, I will colour grade the images slightly with an orange tint so that it stands out and light is emphasised over darkness.
-
Size of card symbols: As I like the way that the same images are without it's halo and devil connotations (edited on Photoshop), I will keep them on the front and back but will decrease the size so it isn't foregrounded as much.
Changes I will not be implementing:
-
Reducing text of artist: Although I may word it differently to make it more concise, it will not be a key implementation as this adds a personal perspective to the artist.
-
Keeping yin-yang on front cover: I will not be doing this as it may look as if a lot is going on in the front cover, particularly because of what is already on the front cover in comparison to the rest.
-
Making name of artist stand out: I think that the artist name looks good as it is because it adds a contemporary feel to the digipak and is already right under the title of the digipak for it to stand out.
-
Making text bigger: Changing font will fix the issue of being unable to read the copy. Making the text too big may mean that it will not fit into its small section.
What else will I be doing in my second draft?
- Adding a copyright message on the back cover which is conventional of digipaks
- Adding logo of Shadow Inc. in a more clearer way, and maybe even the logo of our artist
- Marking the CD so we are more aware of where it goes
